Leroy Smith died March 6, 2001, at age 58. A service will be held in Beaverton.
Mr. Smith was born March 27, 1942, in Portland. He graduated from Beaverton High
School. In 1962, he became the drummer for the rock band Paul Revere and the
Raiders. The group recorded "Louie Louie" in 1963, a big Northwest
hit, and became the house band for "Where the Action Is," a daily rock
music TV program in 1965. Hits such as "Hungry" and "Kicks"
earned gold records. Mr. Smith left the band in the late 1970s but rejoined it
at various concerts for about two years. He moved to Hawaii in the 1980s.
Survivors
include his sons, Rory and Rio F.; daughters, Alexandra and Jenna; father,
Howard W.; mother, Mildred "Midge" Kupler; brother, Jerry; and one
grandchild.
